Jax Basil Brown

Artist’s Statement:

I am drawn to rot, rupture, and renewal - honest instincts in a world organized around destruction and dominance.

Sometimes I imagine a strange underdog superhero: Rot Girl! Composting millennia of grief, shit, and systems of domination into something fertile again.

I hope my work offers people permission to unravel a little: to grieve, to decay, to evolve alongside an ailing world, and to trust breakdown as a form of becoming.

Jax Brown is an artist, facilitator, speaker, writer and entrepreneur formerly known as Nutty Steph. A beach dweller and lover, she wildcrafts street conversations, rivers’ edges, song, gatherings, experiments, and occasional pesto.

Brown’s work turns on pacifism. Envisioning financial and social investments that give life and resist oppression, she is drawn to money and power - how they move, how they hide, and how they shape belonging, distance, safety, and consequence.
